Durante la II Guerra Mundial, el Estrecho de Gibraltar fue un lugar de gran importancia estratégica. Se estima que se construyeron más de 500 de búnkeres de los que se conservan no más de la mitad y muchos de ellos en muy mal estado. El entorno de la Bahía de Algeciras es donde se encuentran un mayor número de ellos.
During the II World War, the coast of the Strait of Gibraltar was a place of great strategic importance. During this period were built more than 500 bunkers, not more than half are conserved and many of them kept in very poor condition. The environment of the Bay of Algeciras keep a greater number of them.
Los búnkeres son actores tangibles del paisaje y la arquitectura local, y a pesar de su extensa presencia son desconocidos para los habitantes de la comarca.
Durante el recorrido del paseo pudimos explorar parte del territorio en el que se extienden los búnkeres y las apasionadas intervenciones de José M. Algarbani y Garry, contextualizaron en la historia el papel estratégico de los búnkeres además de descubrir para los asistentes el trabajo esclavo de los presos políticos de los que se sirvió la dictadura española en su construcción.

En las últimas décadas, la ciudad de Algeciras ha crecido descontroladamente sin responder a los intereses de sus habitantes. Conocer y conservar el patrimonio histórico contemporáneo del entorno de Algeciras es necesario para democratizar su desarrollo y hacer una ciudad más habitable.
In last decades, the city of Algeciras has grown uncontrollably without responding the interests of its inhabitants. To know and preserve the contemporary historical heritage of Algeciras environment is necessary to democratize its development and make a better livable city.
